RAF Typhoon FGR4s have joined forces with French warplanes in a coordinated attack on an underground arms cache in Syria used by the Daesh militant organization, according to the British defence ministry.
The location, pinpointed through intelligence, was thought to be containing munitions and bombs, the statement said, and was located in mountains just north of Palmyra in central Syria.
"Our fighter planes used laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to strike a series of access tunnels leading to the facility... preliminary assessments indicate the objective was successfully hit," officials stated.
There was no sign of any civilian impact in the attack on Saturday evening and each participating jet made a safe return, the ministry further stated.
The Typhoon FGR4s were supported by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.

UK warplanes have conducted overwatch operations over Syria to "prevent any attempted resurgence" of the group following its routing at the battle of Baghuz in 2019, the authorities noted.
"I must thank every member of British forces involved in this operation for their expertise and their valour," Healey said. "Including them were thousands of British personnel on duty over the festive period. This operation, to remove militants who threaten our safety, demonstrates how British military are ready to step up, throughout the year, ensuring Britain's security at home and powerful internationally."

The U.N. reports Daesh still boasts between 5,000 and 7,000 militants in Syria and Iraq.
